What Is Cat Burton Photography?
Who Is Cat Burton?
Cat Burton is a fine art photographer based in Scotland. Originally from rural England, Cat grew up inspired by nature and wildlife. After completing a degree in Computer Science, Cat pursued a technical career for 10 years as a software engineer for investment banks and video game companies. In 2017 she decided to follow her passion for fine art photography and launched Cat Burton Photography.
Where Have You Exhibited?
Cat’s artworks have been exhibited across the UK, including: The Royal Scottish Academy (Edinburgh); Royal Glasgow Institute Of The Fine Arts (Glasgow); across from the Royal Yacht Britannia at Ocean Terminal; and at various other galleries, home/lifestyle events and boutique shops.
What Is A Limited Edition?
Limited Edition means that there will only ever be a specific quantity of prints produced in a given size. Once the edition sells out, no more prints in that size will be produced. The size of editions depends on the image and the medium of the print. Medium-sized prints on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl are in editions of 5-50. Large prints on Aluminium are limited to only 3 per print. For full details on edition sizes, please see the individual images on the web store.
Where Can I See Cat’s Art In Person?
Cat’s artworks can be seen at various exhibitions and retail events throughout the year. Please see our Events page for an up-to-date listing of events. Serious collectors are welcome to visit the studio by appointment only. If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact us.
Where Are The Artwork Editions Produced?
All our artworks are produced in Scotland and are of the highest quality. Prints on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl are produced by Cat herself at her studio in Scone, Scotland. Aluminium prints are produced by trusted third party near Glasgow who produce the prints to the highest standards.
Do You Sell Artworks Framed Or Unframed?
All our artworks on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl are shipped unframed. This enables the collector to frame and mount the image as best suits their interior. Framing is of course guided by the artwork itself, but it is the collector and their interiors which help refine the selection.
Aluminium artworks have a beautiful slim profile and ship unframed and ready-to-hang. An aluminium hanging mechanism is attached to the back of the print and requires no further framing. Custom framing of aluminium artworks can be arranged on request for an additional fee where edition availability permits.
A small number of framed prints are available during retail events. These are usually framed in black or white, as picked by the artist to best portray the artwork. These artworks are usually only sold at events and in very limited numbers.
If you would like to request custom framing for your artworks prior to dispatch, please note that this will incur an additional cost and approximately 2 weeks of production time. Please contact us specifying your preferences and location and we will arrange a quote for you.
Are Artworks Signed?
Yes. All limited editions are signed and numbered on the front. Paper prints are signed below the image. Aluminium prints are signed over the image using a permanent paint marker in the lower corners in small handwriting.
Do Limited Editions Come With A Certificate?
Yes! All limited editions come with a certificate of authenticity which is signed and numbered by the artist. This certificate validates your artwork as being a limited edition Cat Burton print.
What Is The Finish Like On Aluminium Limited Editions?
Aluminium Limited Editions have a beautiful high gloss finish. Due to the nature of the aluminium, you may see the texture of the aluminium through the print or see subtle marks on the surface. This is entirely expected and does not affect the quality of the artwork. Each aluminium print has its own subtleties in the surface making it even more unique and special.
Caring For Your Artworks
How Should I Handle My Artworks?
For prints on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl, please ensure you are using gloves to protect your artwork from finger prints. We recommend leaving your artwork inside its protective packaging and let your framer unpack it to minimise damage.
For Aluminium prints, we recommend two people lift the print to reduce the risk of dropping/damage. Please be very careful of the signature when handling – it’s hard wearing but susceptible to scratches if not handled correctly. Treat the aluminium as you would a painting – minimal handling and minimal cleaning.
How Should I Clean My Aluminium Limited Editions?
If you must clean your Aluminium limited edition, please take great care to avoid the signed/numbered sections at the bottom of the print. You can gently wipe fingerprints from the aluminium surface using a clean duster or microfibre cloth. Only use a soft dry cloth which you would use on delicate or glass items to prevent the surface from scratching. Please do not use any cleaning materials or liquids on the aluminium print. We do not take any responsibility for artworks damaged through cleaning.
